What is the Coffee Skills Program (CSP)?
The CSP is a structured education framework by SCA designed to help learners grow across different disciplines in coffee. It includes six modules:

Is an SCA certificate valid internationally?
Yes! SCA certifications are globally recognized and often serve as a benchmark for coffee competence. Whether you're applying for work in a café in Europe, opening a roastery in India, or looking to train others, an SCA certificate adds serious credibility.
Who can attend SCA courses? Do I need prior experience?
Not at all. Foundation-level courses are designed for beginners or anyone new to that particular module. No prior experience is required, just curiosity and passion for coffee.
What kind of certificate will I get?
Upon completing the course and passing the practical and/or written assessments, you will receive an official SCA certificate, issued by the Specialty Coffee Association and visible on your learner portal.
How do I progress after completing the Foundation level?
Once you complete a Foundation-level module, you can move to the Intermediate level and eventually the Professional level in that module. You can also explore other modules based on your interests (e.g., Sensory Skills or Barista Skills).
Are these classes only for professionals?
No! While professionals benefit greatly, many coffee enthusiasts, home brewers, and aspiring entrepreneurs take these classes to deepen their understanding and skills.
Is there an exam? What if I don’t pass?
Yes, each module includes a practical and/or written assessment. In the rare case that you don’t pass, you can retake the exam.
Do I need to bring anything to class?
All brewing equipment, tools, and materials (coffee, filters, kettles, etc.) are provided by the training lab. You just need to carry a notebook, pen and your interest to learn!
Is this course enough to open my own café or roastery?
The Brewing Foundation course gives you a solid technical start and foundational knowledge. However, opening a café also involves understanding business, operations, and customer service. Many students pursue additional modules (e.g., Barista Skills, Sensory Skills) or take café management workshops alongside.
Can I list the SCA certificate on my résumé or LinkedIn?
Absolutely! An SCA certificate is a strong credential for your résumé, especially if you're applying for roles in cafés, roasteries, import/export companies, or training centers. It's recognized globally and showcases formal, standards based learning.
Is the certificate permanent or does it expire?
SCA certificates do not expire. Once you complete and pass a module, your certification remains valid for life. However, continuing education is encouraged to stay current with new techniques and global practices.
Is this course suitable for home brewers or only professionals?
It’s for both! Many home brewers take the Brewing Foundation course to refine their skills and understand brewing from a scientific perspective. Professionals benefit from the certification and structured training, but hobbyists are equally welcome.
